Southampton return to Championship action on Tuesday evening with an away trip to face Leicester City.
Former EFL professional Sam Parkin has predicted a 2-1 away win for Southampton at Leicester City on Tuesday night.
The Saints sit 14th in the Championship standings after 31 matches, just four points shy of the play-offs behind Wrexham in 6th place.
Southampton secured a 1-0 home victory against Watford in their previous outing. New signing Cyle Larin netted the decisive goal against the Hornets at St Mary’s Stadium.
Speaking on the Benjamin Bloom YouTube channel, ex-Luton Town, Ipswich Town, and Swindon Town player Parkin shared his scoreline forecast ahead of their clash with Leicester City:
“Going into this way with the way Southampton are performed in those narrow two victories, I’m going to have to go for an away win. Something tells me Leicester will be ok. I think they’ll find something within, whether that comes from an exterior appointment or just their quality players pulling it together.”
He added: “I will go 2-1 Southampton.”
Southampton were relegated from the Premier League last season alongside Leicester City and Ipswich Town and subsequently appointed Will Still as their head coach. He struggled to deliver results and has since been succeeded in the dugout by Tonda Eckert.
Southampton aiming for third consecutive win
The Saints have triumphed in their last two matches in a row and remain unbeaten over their last four fixtures. They overcame Stoke City away before their most recent victory over Watford.
Southampton remain in contention for a top-six finish if they can maintain consistency. The gap could shrink further should they claim another three points against Leicester City.
Eckert was initially installed as interim head coach following the club’s decision to part ways with Still. His caretaker stint impressed enough for him to be confirmed in the full-time role.
The Hampshire club were active in the January transfer window, bringing in players such as Larin, Oriol Romeu, and Daniel Peretz to strengthen their squad. They also moved on players including Adam Armstrong, Ronnie Edwards, and Joe Aribo to free up squad space and finances.
Leicester City preparing for Southampton challenge
Leicester City face a difficult test against an in-form Southampton side. LCFC will need to be at their best to secure a positive result.
The Foxes have recently suffered a points deduction, which has dropped them down the league table. They currently occupy 21st place, just above the relegation zone on goal difference, with Blackburn Rovers, Oxford United, and Sheffield Wednesday completing the bottom four.
Leicester City remain in search of a new manager after recently parting ways with Marti Cifuentes, with several options reportedly under consideration.
In their last fixture, Leicester were defeated 2-1 away at Birmingham City. Abdul Fatawu scored their lone goal, but it wasn’t enough to salvage a result.
