Wolves have secured just one victory from 26 matches, amassing only nine points, leaving them 18 points behind Pereira’s 17th-placed Nottingham Forest with 12 fixtures remaining.
Indeed, Wolves are on track to finish among the lowest-ranked Premier League sides in history and have already begun preparations for life outside the top flight, as evidenced by Edwards’ appointment and the deadline-day acquisition of Southampton forward Adam Armstrong earlier this month.
Now, with a Championship return looming ever closer, Football League World has learned of Wolves’ interest in making a major move for a potential rival in the second tier next season.
Wolves plotting big Leicester City transfer raid
Football League World can exclusively reveal that Wolves are actively monitoring a highly-rated Leicester City winger ahead of the summer transfer window as they brace for the inevitability of relegation.
It remains unclear how far this interest has progressed, although FLW understands that Wolves are keeping close tabs on the player’s potential availability for next term.
Sources have told FLW that Wolves are determined to assemble a squad capable of securing promotion from the Championship at the first attempt, with a significant overhaul expected at Molineux.
This ambition has reportedly led Wolves to explore a move for the Leicester star, who has once again emerged as a standout performer in the Championship despite his club’s continued struggles both on and off the pitch following last season’s relegation.
The tricky 21-year-old wide-man has been a consistent bright spark in an otherwise underwhelming Foxes squad, contributing eight goals and seven assists from 32 appearances.
