Chesterfield assistant Danny Webb has heaped praise on the Leicester City loanee for his outstanding all-around performances, emphasizing that he is winning over the supporters with his wholehearted commitment.
The central midfielder, a native of Leicester, progressed through the Foxes’ youth system and was named among the substitutes for the senior team on several occasions back in 2022, during the club’s Premier League era.
He has represented England at various youth levels, most recently featuring for the Young Lions’ Under-20 setup.
Highly regarded, the youngster turned down interest from Germany in order to commit his future to the Foxes by signing a professional contract.
The promising midfielder made his Leicester debut four years ago in an EFL Cup tie against Newport County, which remains his sole senior appearance to this day.
The Foxes sent their young asset out on loan to Dundee and Newport County before League Two outfit Chesterfield secured his services during the recently concluded winter transfer window.
He caught the attention of former EFL winger Adrian Clarke during his stint with the Exiles and was commended for his class and natural ability on the ball.
Since his arrival, the 21-year-old has made an immediate impact at the Spireites, starting seven league matches for Paul Cook’s side.
Chesterfield assistant Webb commended the player for his composure and skill in possession, highlighting his willingness to demand the ball in congested areas without fear.
He stressed that the Foxes’ loanee never shies away from committing fully to a tackle, a trait he believes is currently resonating well with both the fans and the coaching staff.
“I don’t know if he captained England Under-17s, but if he did, that is really good”, Webb said to Chesterfield’s media (4:14) upon learning that Sammy Braybrooke had captained the Young Lions.
“No, listen, what is pleasing all the staff and us and probably the supporters is that he does little tricks and flicks and breaks away.
“And then fantastic passes across the pitch, and he asks for the ball in areas where other players don’t want it.
“And when there is a 50-50, he goes in for it.
“That is what the supporters want to see, they want to see players who give their all.”
Braybrooke has long been regarded as a significant prospect and will be desperate to stake his claim for a opportunity at Leicester this summer, building on the momentum from his productive loan spell at Chesterfield.
