DEVELOPING STORY: “YOU’RE NOT FOOLING ANYONE!” PGMOL BUSTED AS LEAKED ‘FULL ADMISSION’ DROPS LEICESTER INTO CHAOS—WHAT THE REFS HIDE DURING THE IPSWICH CLASH?

Leicester City receive ‘full admission’ as PGMOL reach out to Ipswich Town following Hamza Choudhury controversy
Leicester City appear to have benefited from a couple of decisions going their way at Portman Road on Saturday

Leicester City ought to have been awarded two penalties against them in Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Ipswich Town.

That is according to Tractor Boys manager Kieran McKenna who says referees’ body PGMOL have been in contact to confirm the disputed decision not to punish Hamza Choudhury for shoving Cedric Kipre late in the game was incorrect.

McKenna also disclosed that was not the only call that favoured the Foxes.

Speaking ahead of Tuesday’s trip to Stoke City, McKenna told the EADT: “Martyn (Pert, assistant manager) spoke to Kevin Friend yesterday, who sort of conducts that at this level. Yes, there’s full admission that there should have been two penalties, one on Anis (Mehmeti) and certainly the one at the end.

“Everyone was disappointed with the officials that it wasn’t given. It doesn’t change anything now though. There’s no time to dwell. We just move on now quickly to Stoke.

“I’ll try and stay pragmatic about it and control what we can control. As I’ve said before, I’m not the first one to be shouting for VAR. So, if you’re not in that camp, then don’t be hypocritical and be screaming for every decision.

“But there’s some that really, really disappoint you beyond what was in the norm of anyone being able to make a mistake and it being a hard job. I think that was certainly one of them – it’s at such a pivotal point in the game and was not a particularly difficult decision. So it was more disappointing than most.”

McKenna was less than pragmatic after the game when he pointed the finger at referee John Busby. “It’s crazy for me that it’s not given. It couldn’t be any more clear, there’s nowhere else you can look.

“Dara [O’Shea] puts an incredible ball into the six-yard box, that’s the only place that all the officials have to look and Cedric gets fouled in every way you can get fouled.”

Gary Rowett attempted to downplay the incidents, particularly the one involving Choudhury: “At that stage of the game, it’s such a huge call to give. There’s so much pushing and pulling in the box. Every time they had a corner we were getting players held at the back post to open up the space.”
