JibrinLeicester City’s unsuccessful appeal means their fate hinges on their performances on the pitch, and there’s little reason to believe they can climb out of the relegation zone, according to pundit Simon Jordan.
City’s six-point penalty has been confirmed, leaving them in 22nd place in the Championship with five matches remaining.
Even if their six points were returned, they would sit 19th in the standings, and that is “pretty abject”, the former Crystal Palace chairman stated.
Based on their current run of form, with nine points collected in nine games under Gary Rowett, he struggles to see how City avoid the drop.
“Looking at the performances, irrespective of the six points, it’s been pretty abject,” Jordan said on talkSPORT. “Even with the six points, they’d only be 19th for a side that was relegated last season. You look and ask what’s gone on there.
“What’s happening off the field with points sanctions and all of that stuff, people can use that as an excuse, they can use it to build into the dispiriting scenario around the players. But even at 19th in the table, that’s pretty crap for Leicester City. They’ve not covered themselves in any glory.
“They’ve put themselves in a terrible position. Portsmouth have got a game in hand over them and if they win that, Leicester have got to make up four points in five games, and that’s an ask.
“If you’ve got 47 points from 41 games, you’re not a good side. They’ve changed managers so it isn’t about the managerial side of things. It means there’s something fundamentally very wrong with the team and the ownership.
“You needed to do it on the field with or without the appeal. They’ve shown no indication that they can.
“They’ve bought Gary Rowett in who’s a very sensible manager who will do a decent job, but you’re amongst it. If you can’t beat Sheffield Wednesday, who can you beat?”
City face Swansea this weekend but then travel to Portsmouth in a vital relegation six-pointer. Pompey take on Middlesbrough away this weekend, and then have their game in hand at home to Ipswich in midweek.
Jordan added: “The big game will be Portsmouth. If Portsmouth haven’t won their game in hand or the game that corresponds with Leicester’s next game, there will be an opportunity for Leicester to beat Portsmouth and get out of the bottom three.
“They’ve then got Hull, Millwall, and Blackburn. None of these games are easy. If you look at their recent form, what is there that tells you they’re going to get anywhere? They had to beat Sheffield Wednesday.”
