Michail Antonio could be heading to the Championship, and will be looking to fire in the goals that could make life even tougher for City at the bottom of the table.

Michail Antonio could join Charlton Athletic after Leicester City declined an opportunity to sign the free-agent forward.
Antonio is in preliminary talks with City’s relegation rivals, according to the BBC, with Addicks manager Nathan Jones keen to bring in the 35-year-old on a short-term deal.

City had previously explored the same option with Antonio, and the former West Ham attacker spent several weeks training at Seagrave through December and into early January.

However, then-boss Marti Cifuentes stated he suffered a muscle injury during training, and so City decided not to pursue a deal.
Five weeks on, and Antonio could soon be lining up for one of the teams City are battling at the foot of the table.

Although seven points from their last available nine, including a 2-0 victory at the King Power Stadium, has seen the Addicks pull clear of the bottom three.

They’re now seven points ahead of City, and of Blackburn in 22nd, with a game in hand over both City and West Brom.
Antonio has not featured in a senior club match for 14 months following a serious road accident in December 2024.

He did, however, play for Jamaica last summer and made a couple of appearances with West Ham Under-21s at the start of the season.
Antonio then went on trial at Brentford before coming to City, with Cifuentes excited about the potential signing before the injury.

Bringing in a striker had appeared to be City’s priority for the January window, but injuries forced them to shift focus elsewhere, with their four deadline-day signings recruited to cover other positions.

Dujuan Richards, loaned in from Chelsea, had originally been intended as a striker, but interim boss Andy King confirmed he had actually been signed to operate on the right wing.

That leaves City’s striker options as Jordan Ayew and Patson Daka, with the latter scoring his second league goal of the season in Tuesday night’s defeat to Southampton.
