BREAKING:“No Longer Just Rumour — ASSISTANT from Villa’s 15th-Place CHAMPIONSHIP RISE to PREMIER LEAGUE PROMOTION Now a Relevant Leicester CONTENDER!”

Major Update in Leicester Management Hunt As New Candidates Become Relevant

Leicester City’s managerial search is gradually shifting from wide speculation to more defined and credible conversations.

With defensive instability and a fragile mentality still major concerns, the club’s hierarchy understands that the next appointment must bring structure, authority and immediate impact. Time is not a luxury.
Michael O’Neill’s recent appointment at Blackburn — marked by a strong 3-1 victory away at QPR — may indirectly influence Leicester’s options. His move reshapes the market and potentially leaves other previously linked names available.

Gary Rowett remains one of the more practical profiles. His experience at Oxford, Millwall, Derby and Stoke aligns with the kind of steady, organised leadership often required in Championship pressure scenarios. He continues to be seriously discussed.

Ralph Hassenhutl currently stands as bookmakers’ favourite. His structured tactical identity and experience managing at high levels make him an understandable option in a situation demanding defensive discipline.
Steven Gerrard also remains in the frame. While not widely associated with short-term relegation firefighting, he represents a potentially ambitious long-term appointment.
Russell Martin’s name surfaces intermittently, though such a decision would divide supporter opinion. It would require immediate improvement to justify.

Sean Dyche appears unlikely at this stage, with doubts over whether he would take on a Championship rescue mission.

There has even been background noise regarding a former Leicester boss returning, but practical circumstances suggest that scenario is unrealistic.

At this point, Leicester require clarity, defensive structure and a calming presence capable of stabilising performances quickly.
The narrowed shortlist of realistic, immediately available options appears to be:
Ralph Hassenhutl
Steven Gerrard
Gary Rowett

An announcement is expected sooner rather than later.
However, one development has quietly moved from distant talk to something now described internally as “relevant.”

An assistant coach — previously part of the Leicester setup — is being viewed differently behind the scenes.

This individual worked under Dean Smith both at Leicester and earlier at Aston Villa.

More importantly, he was part of the Aston Villa coaching staff during the remarkable 2018–19 season when Smith guided the club from 15th place in the Championship to Premier League promotion via the play-offs.

That campaign demanded resilience, tactical flexibility and the ability to handle immense late-season pressure — precisely the traits Leicester are searching for now.

What once felt like a wildcard suggestion is increasingly being seen as a credible option.
That assistant is John Terry.

No longer just rumour — now genuinely relevant in Leicester’s managerial hunt.
