Leicester City are on the verge of finalizing the appointment of their new sporting director.

According to reports from The Sun’s Alan Nixon, the individual poised to take up the newly created position at the King Power Stadium is a current high-ranking figure within the City Football Group.

The incoming executive has been linked with Manchester City for the majority of the last ten years. His tenure there included a three-year stint as head of sports science and medicine, followed by a four-year spell as sporting director at the Belgian sister club, Lommel. Since last summer, he has overseen player development across the global CFG network, which includes prominent clubs like Man City, Girona, and Palermo.

The Foxes have been pursuing a new sporting director since a hierarchical restructuring was announced last autumn. In this innovative capacity, the incoming figure will collaborate closely with current director of football Jon Rudkin on key strategic matters, including transfers, contract negotiations, and managerial hires, ultimately shaping the club’s long-term trajectory.

During a series of discussions last month, club chairman Aiyawatt ‘Top’ Srivaddhanaprabha emphasized that the new arrival would be crucial in redefining the club’s core philosophy.

“We have to get back to what the identity of Leicester is,” Top said. “When the structure changes and we get the new sporting director in, we will make sure that we are seeing what the identity of Leicester is, what football we should play, what player we should bring in. I think that will be more clear.

“The identity has to be clear. I’m not saying the new guy is going to be coming in and changing everything just like that. It will take time. We have to build a squad and a culture.

“He’s not going to be a wizard, but it will be someone who is sure how we should play football and will help the manager and players to understand how.”

As the search reaches its conclusion, all signs now point toward a single candidate with deep roots in the City Football Group structure. That man is James McCarron.
